File names too long

Postby Dougmsbbs » 17:40, 04 Feb 2016

Tried installing the new version today, but it keeps saying files names are too long. I'm running Windows 10. Figured I'd ask about it here before I try to change every single file in the ZIP file to shorten the names. Not something I would look forward too....

Hi!

We'll look into this right away, doesn't sound good at all.
Just something, if it's the entire path + file name that exceeds win10, try unpacking it in /tmp or other short path and see where that goes!

Best

Um, in the category of 'Why didn't I think of that?', I'll take who the heck knows for 100, Alex. Lol.

That worked. I just made a directory called C1 in the root of my C drive, and it unpacked fine there. Still, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will run into this...

Thanks! 8-)

Christ, been programming since the late '80's, and putting it in a directory with a shorter path didn't even occur to me. Can I blame it on senility? After all, I AM old enough to have been programming for, um, well, WAY too many years....

Hi!

Glad that helped, however we probably forgot to normalize the zip file, think it's called npm-flatten that tool, which chews off some characters om the paths. Thanks for the heads-up regardless, hope to hear more on what ya think of the new Studio software of ours.

Best regards

Alex

Yes, I looked into this issue in december:

https://github.com/evothings/evothings- ... issues/139

...and for some reason we missed integrating the flattening in our build script.

As far as feedback on the new software, I like what I see. Can't say I've really given it a good workout yet, but I'm a BIG FAN of the new 'login and skip the whole typing a code' thing! Thanks for that!

Oh, and for my senility thing, hows this: I misspoke when I said I've been programming since the late '80's. Just dawned on me this morning, I started in 1978. Oh well... whats a decade off here and there....

Love feedback, eh? Well, I got some for you. :) Love the new connection method!

Not having to type in a code is great, and a time saver too.

All in all I'm liking what I'm seeing in the new version.

Keep up the great work.
