When your Arduino Wifi shield can't connect

Postby alex » 16:18, 24 Apr 2014

When Evothings Studio example like "Arduino LED On/Off TCP", if both the phone and Wifi shield seen connected but can't find each other, e.g. getting this alert in the Evothings client;

Code: Select all

"Failed to send the command to the Arduino"

it's probably the shield firmware that needs updating. You can do it from your computer using a "mini USB->USB" cable, following these instructions:

http://arduino.cc/en/Hacking/WiFiShieldFirmwareUpgrading

Note: You don't need to dismount the shield to do this operation, yet the Arduino is best NOT powered up when updating the shield.

And a little shortcut, for those of us in a hurry:

1. Find the "firmwares" folder of your Arduino installation
2. Go to the folder that carries your "ArduinoWifiShield_upgrade.sh" script, typically hardware>arduino>firmwares>scripts
3. Plug a mini USB connector directly in the wifi shield, while unplug the Arduino from power.
4. Write (if you're using a Mac, that is):

Code: Select all

sudo ./ArduinoWifiShield_upgrade.sh -a /Applications/Arduino.app/Contents/Resources/Java -f shield
