Trouble using Bluetooth & WiFi at same time on Android

Hi there,
I am having a very bumpy ride attempting to use Bluetooth LE and WiFi at the same time on Android devices. I am using the Evothings BLE plugin to continuously monitor one or more BLE devices, and at the same time I am using WiFi to continuously report their status and location back to a server. I can do this with no issues on iOS, but on Android it seems like the two technologies are competing with each other and neither one works reliably. If I shut off the Bluetooth, all of the WiFi traffic works fine, and if I shut off the WiFi, I can see all of the Bluetooth devices. But if both are enabled, the BLE device visibility is questionable, and the WiFi traffic may/may not make it to the server. I have tested this on a Nexus 7 tablet with Android 4.4.4 and an LG Optimus Exceed with Android 4.4.2 with exactly the same results.
Any thoughts on this? Anyone experiencing the same behavior? Thanks in advance.
Mike
